A brief history

The train station Jerxheim is north of the 'Großer Bruch' a kind of wetland and insignificant river between Hornburg and Oschersleben. The original train station was built in 1842 and on July 16th, 1843 the first train moved from Braunschweig to Oschersleben. Already after October 1847 trains passed the station on their route to Cologne - Duisburg - Gelsenkirchen - Dortmund - Hannover - Braunschweig - Jerxheim - Oschersleben - Magdeburg - Köthen - Dessau - Rosslau - Wittenberg - Jüterbog - Berlin.

In 1853, Jerxheim was the main train intersection with 9 points, an axes and a major ramp. The train station needed expansion because the traffic came from 5 directions. In 1901 the tracks were extended to 21.39 km and with 29 extra tracks, 117 points and three mechanical signal boxes. This amounted to a total length of 2300 m.

After the Second World War the train station Jerxheim-Bahnhof lost its main function as a central train transportation system.
